Failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is officially running for the U.S. Senate.
Lake filed her candidacy with the Federal Elections Commission on Tuesday. She previously confirmed her candidacy to the Associated Press, and plans to formally launch her campaign with an Oct. 10 rally.
The race for the Senate in Arizona could result in a rare, three-way general election contest.
The seat up for grabs is currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who’s not yet announced whether she’ll seek reelection, though a leaked memo shows the independent senator is charting an unorthodox path to victory in 2024.
Rep. Ruben Gallego, meanwhile, is the only major candidate in the race for the Democratic nomination.
Then there’s Lake, who enters the race as the front-runner for the GOP nomination. The only other candidate in the Republican Senate primary is Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.
A charismatic former television anchor, Lake has built an enthusiastic following among Republicans nationally with her unflinching support for Trump and her steadfast promotion of false claims of election fraud, including in her own loss to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs.
