Biggs wants secret vote for U.S. House speaker

Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs was one of the eight hard-line Republicans who broke from the party to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

But with no clear successor and the GOP facing its own ideological divide, Biggs says the party needs to take its negotiations behind closed doors.

Speaking to conservative channel Real America’s Voice, he said Republicans need to avoid the spectacle created in January, when it took 15 rounds to finally elect McCarthy.

"No more – no more of this – this vote after vote after vote on the floor like we did last January. Which, by the way, we asked Speaker, then Majority Leader McCarthy to let us do that behind closed doors. He didn’t want to."

Biggs says he wants the party to nominate the most conservative person who can get the required 218 votes.
