It's October, but no break from the heat so far in metro Phoenix

Despite it being October, Valley residents have not steered clear of hot weather just yet. The National Weather Service forecasts high temperatures for the beginning of the work week.

Matt Salerno is a Phoenix-based meteorologist with the agency.

"So, we’re going to continue with these above-normal temperatures, like we’ve been seeing. However, it looks like we’re gonna at least hit below 100 degrees to start the work week," he said.

The NWS forecasts those highs will fall towards the end of the week as temperatures begin to decrease. Salerno says highs in the 80s may occur approaching Halloween time.

This week's forecast

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 98 and a low around 72.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 96. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Lows around 71.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Lows drop to 66.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 90. A low around 65.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Lows around 68.
