Tuesday is World Mental Health Day, and one Arizona school district is getting funds to address mental health needs in the classroom.
The Cartwright School District is set to receive $75,000 to address mental health and well-being challenges for students, teachers and staff.
The district is located in Maryvale and serves 14,000 students from PreK through eighth grade across 20 schools.
The money comes from the Thiru Family Trust Momentum Maker Grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Foundation for Community & Health Advancement.
$35,000 will be paid to the nonprofit Teen Lifeline to provide resources and policy guidance on suicide prevention.
Another $15,000 will be used to provide teachers and staff with mindfulness training.
This is the first year Blue Cross has offered such a grant.
