Scottsdale holding workshops for input on noise ordinance

Scottsdale city officials are looking for public feedback on potential updates to its noise ordinance for restaurants and other businesses. Workshops will be held in November to consider updates as well as noise mitigation strategies.

Currently, unreasonable noise is defined as that which a reasonable person would find excessive and can be heard at least 100 feet from a business that serves alcohol or provides live entertainment.

Joy Racine is Scottsdale’s community involvement manager.

“Right now, we do have a special noise violations ordinance and so we do look at what is considered reasonable so when we do get calls, we do have officers who will address them,” she said.

She talked about the goal of updating the noise ordinance.

“Our goal is to gather as much public feedback as we can along with our objective Scottsdale specific data so that we can explore all the possibilities and come up with the best agreement,” she said.

Information gathered during the November meetings could go into an updated draft ordinance for the city council to eventually approve, though the public will have a chance to provide feedback.
