Stacey Kent brings world tour of her new jazz album to the MIM in Phoenix

There’s no shortage of options for hearing live jazz music in the Valley.

That’s the case with Stacey Kent, whose world tour makes a stop at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 to promote her new album, “Summer Me, Winter Me." It's due out in mid-November.

“I knew when we recorded this that this would be the title because it was so evocative. It was so inviting, and I’m always looking for that invitation in, because music transports me. It transports us as a group, as a community of listeners,” said Kent.

The album includes several jazz standards, married with original music written by Kent’s husband, Jim Tomlinson, a British saxophone and clarinet player, with lyrics by Nobel Prize-winning author Kazuo Ishiguro.

“It came together kind of naturally that all of these songs had never found a home on a record and ended up being a very cohesive package as one record. It’s kind of like the flow of an evening on stage. It’s that kind of an album,” she said.
