Maricopa County to offer nearly on-site child care for employees

A future child care facility will serve Maricopa County employees and their families exclusively.

The county Board of Supervisors approved a $13 million contract with KinderCare to operate a center that will be built at Fourth Avenue and Madison Street, near many county-owned buildings in downtown Phoenix.

Care for kids 6 weeks to 5 years old will be available seven days a week, and eventually 24 hours to accommodate all work shifts.

A county spokesperson told KJZZ News that they don’t track how many of their 13,000 employees have children, but through an employee survey, the county determined there’s enough interest to support a center with 156 children per shift.

Construction is expected to start in early 2024 with an opening in 2025. How much employees will pay for care has not been determined.
