Maricopa County approves $850,000 for homeless support services in Surprise

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved $850,000 in funding for homeless support services. It’s part of a broader partnership with the city of Surprise.

The collaboration will fund resources to address homelessness like the new West Valley Housing Assistance Center, which offers housing assistance to homeless families.

The city will also hire a homeless coordinator and participate in the Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program, where faith communities provide access to emergency shelter, sleeping space and meals to adults experiencing homelessness.

The joint initiative is funded with $600,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds and $250,000 in Maricopa County General Funds.
