There are important changes that people may want to make during Medicare enrollment

The enrollment period to apply for Medicare recently opened. Those with Social Security are automatically enrolled in two parts of the program.

On PBS’s "Arizona Horizon," Alberto Alvarez of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program says there may be important changes that people may want to make.

“There are multiple reasons why you want to change. One of the reasons, one of the many reasons, is cost. So if the cost went up, you’re going to try to look for a plan that is more affordable to you," he said.

Those who want to learn more about applying for Medicare can do so at shiphelp.org or contact 1-800-MEDICARE.

The enrollment period ends Dec. 7.
