Díaz and Montini: Justice Bill Montgomery should recuse himself from abortion case

Arizona Supreme Court Justice and former Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is in the line of fire this week after independent news outlet the 19th and the Arizona Mirror released a piece unearthing some of the more incendiary comments he has made about abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

At one point in his former political career, he said they are responsible for “ the greatest genocide known to man.”

This comes as the Arizona Supreme Court is set to decide on the future of abortion in Arizona. The court will review whether or not to revive an 1864 law that banned just about all abortions and mandated prison time for providers.

Should the justice recuse himself? And what does judicial independence mean anymore?

For more on all of that, The Show spoke to Arizona Republic editorial page editor Elvia Díaz and columnist E.J. Montini, whose recent column breaks it all down.
