State Department issues worldwide travel alert, cites 'increased tensions'

On Wednesday, the State Department issued a worldwide travel alert that cautions Americans traveling overseas. The advisory was issued due to increased tensions across the globe.

Nancy Purdin is owner of MVP Travel in Tucson. She recommends for people to enroll in the federal Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, or STEP.

“You put in your destination, your first hotel, how long you’re going to be gone, that sort of thing, so they know that they have travelers in that country, if something should happen," Purdin said.

STEP lets U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad log their trips with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
