Arizona Citizens Clean Election Commission adopts new 'dark money' rules

The Citizens Clean Election Commission has adopted policies for investigating violations of the Voters Right to Know Act.

The new law, which was approved by Arizona voters in 2022, unveils the donors behind "dark money" — anonymous donations used to influence the outcome of elections.

"Going forward we hope to work to help ensure the public and other stakeholders have the information they need in order to be in compliance with Proposition 211," said Tom Collins, the commission’s executive director.

This action resulted in five new guidelines for enforcement.

Any Arizona voter who believes a violation of the dark money law has occurred can file a written complaint to the commission. For more information on how to file a complaint, visit  azcleanelections.gov/campaign-finance-enforcement.
