ASU professor provides insight on social media misinformation

While social media serves as a conduit for current events, it can also be a hotbed for misinformation.

Recently, the European Union announced its investigation of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The investigation is looking at X’s compliance with the Digital Services Act over disseminating disinformation, illegal content and more.

Associate professor Hazel Kwon leads the Media, Information, Data and Society Lab at ASU’s journalism school.

“Major platforms definitely need to invest more resources to expand their content moderation mechanisms,” she said.

The European Union released a study and found X to have the highest prevalence of misinformation.
