Wrong-way crash on Loop 101 in Peoria leaves1 dead, 2 injured

A vehicle crash involving a wrong-way driver and a recreational vehicle on the Loop 101 in Peoria on Sunday morning left one person dead and two people injured.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says calls came in about a head-on collision involving a band touring bus and truck in the early morning hours.

“Not even two minutes later, we started getting calls that that vehicle had been involved in a head-on collision with a very large RV, recreational vehicle, that was, like, a band touring bus, kind of vehicle,” said DPS Sgt. Erin Andrews.

According to Andrews, the crash led to a closure.

“The collision ended up closing the entire highway. There was debris and the vehicles were spread all throughout all the lanes. And again this was north of Thunderbird Road and south of Bell Road on the northbound State Route 101," he said.

Andrews says the front passenger of the tour bus was ejected from the vehicle through a windshield. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle later succumbed to his injuries.
