Chicago-based law firm files suit to block Arizona ballot drop boxes

A Chicago-based law firm is suing Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes to stop the use of unmonitored ballot drop boxes.

The Thomas More Society is challenging the constitutionality of the drop boxes. It filed suit in Yavapai County on behalf of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club.

Fontes says the lawsuit is part of a push to undermine voter confidence since the 2020 election.

"This method of voting has a long tradition in Arizona, going back to 2005 in very deep red Yavapai County. So, I’m always very curious about why some of the longest standing and Republican approved forms of voting are under scrutiny," Fontes said.

Fontes says getting rid of drop boxes would limit voter accessibility.
