The Arizona Republic’s parent company agreed to settle a lawsuit seeking records related to the Arizona Senate’s so-called audit of Maricopa County’s 2020 election.
The Republic sought an assortment of records, such as communications between government officials and the allies of former President Donald Trump involved in coordinating the flawed election review.
According to the Republic, Cyber Ninjas owner Doug Logan, who the Senate hired to lead the review, has agreed to provide the newspaper with remaining records, including communications with individuals tied to efforts to overturn the 2020 election and documents detailing Logan’s fundraising.
The Republic’s attorneys are also asking a judge to award the newspaper around $690,000 in legal fees from Cyber Ninjas and the Senate. In the application for attorneys’ fees filed with the court, they cite the state’s Public Records Law, which requires that public records be produced “promptly.”
According to the Republic, the Senate’s review had already cost taxpayers nearly $5 million.
