The top Democratic leader in the Arizona House of Representatives still hasn't spoken with a West Valley lawmaker nearly two weeks after a judge signed an injunction against harassment ordering her to stay away from three city officials in Tolleson.
Tolleson City Manager Reyes Medrano and two other employees obtained an injunction against harassment on Oct. 18 against Rep. Leezah Sun, a Democratic who represents Legislative District 22.
The officials alleged Sun yelled at them, used crude language and made verbal threats during two incidents in May and August of this year.
In the petition seeking the injunction, Medrano alleged Sun became agitated with city staff while at City Civic Center on May 31. He alleged Sun accused staff of only calling her when they want her to vote on certain bills before yelling and using profane language.
In a second incident on Aug. 29, the petition alleged that Sun threatened Pilar Sinawi, Tolleson’s chief government affairs officer. Sun allegedly told other attendees at a conference that she would “smack” Sinawi if she attended the conference and would “throw her off this balcony to kill her!”
In a lengthy written statement, Sun denied the allegations, claiming they are part of a coordinated defamation campaign against her.
Details of Sun’s alleged threats were first reported in The Yellow Sheet Report in July. But House Democratic leadership, led by Rep. Lupe Contreras, Sun’s seatmate, have yet to meet with her to discuss the incidents.
In a statement, Contreras said he is not familiar with the details of the incidents but considers it a serious matter. He said it would be premature to comment further, citing due process concerns.
