GCU's woes continue as its education services provider is under FTC investigation

Grand Canyon University has denied findings by the U.S. Department of Education that the private, Christian school lied to thousands of students about the cost of its doctoral programs.

Separately, GCU’s education services provider is under review by the Federal Trade Commission.

GCU revealed in October that its education services provider, which is a publicly traded company, is under review by the FTC.

The agency has vowed to crack down on for-profit schools that make false promises.

The FTC claimed partial credit when the Education Department recently forgave loans to former University of Phoenix students.

The chief executive officer of GCU’s education services provider is Brian Mueller. He worked 22 years for the parent company of University of Phoenix.

GCU was fined roughly $38 million this week by the Education Department. The school has said that it is being unjustly targeted by the feds.
