Operator of 4 unlicensed sober living homes in metro Phoenix charged with 2 felonies

A new indictment charges the operator of four so-called sober living homes in Phoenix with crimes related to patient brokering.

A state grand jury handed down the indictment against 41-year-old Corey Beckhum.

It alleges he offered to provide patients to an AHCCCS funded facility and instead housed them in four unlicensed sober living homes throughout the Valley.

In exchange, prosecutors allege that he took payments for each person housed per day.

Investigators who served a warrant at the four homes said they found 16 people living in unsanitary conditions. His indictment and arrest follow a string of prosecutions targeting the owners of fraudulent rehabilitation homes that victimized mostly Native Americans from throughout the Southwest.
