World Series wager results in Phoenix Zoo naming rattlesnake after Texas Rangers team

Thanks to a friendly wager between zoos in Phoenix and Texas, a local rattlesnake has a new name — Ranger.

It’s all thanks to a bet placed between the Phoenix Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo in Dallas over the World Series.

Had the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Texas Rangers, perhaps a rattlesnake in Dallas would now be named Baxter after Arizona’s mascot.

Instead, according to Phoenix Zoo spokesman Joaquin Hidalgo, a western diamondback at the zoo now bears the Rangers’ name.

“We will have the Rangers logo and the World Series logo next to the sign next to him, but if I do catch him wearing a jersey, I’ll be very upset. That was not part of the deal,” he said.

The Fort Worth Zoo  made a social media post thanking Phoenix for upholding its end of the bet.
