Bureau of Land Management announces advancements in 2 Arizona projects

The Interior Department announced Monday that it’s advancing 15 renewable energy projects. The federal Bureau of Land Management is advancing two of those in Arizona.

The BLM announced the start of environmental analysis for a project in Yuma that includes building a solar and battery storage system. Plus, other associated facilities like a switchyard, access roads and temporary work areas.

The Bureau also said it will announce approved construction for a transmission line across the state next week. Once completed, the line will cross public lands and support utility-scale solar energy from another solar and battery storage facility west of Phoenix.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said the projects are both part of the Biden administration’s efforts to expand renewable energy technologies.
