Phoenix Rising, Arizona’s highest-level professional soccer franchise, are celebrating their first United Soccer League title.
The Rising won the championship in dramatic fashion on Sunday in South Carolina, coming back to beat the Charleston Battery 3-2 in the final on penalty kicks after the teams completed extra time tied.
It’s the Rising’s first USL title in the club’s seven-year history. They lost in the USL finals back in 2018 and missed a chance to play in the final after a COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
