Flagstaff Public Library is hosting a free interactive seminar exploring the past, present, and future of Dinétah, the homeland of the Navajo Nation.
The writing workshop is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18.
The last workshop of its kind for the year caps off a series led by Diné poet, publisher and artist Amber McCrary and creative writing professor Shaina Nez.
The program explores poems and stories from "The Diné Reader: An Anthology of Navajo Literature."
McCrary said attendees will discuss how writing can help them understand challenges shaping Indigenous landscapes while offering an opportunity to share their own experiences.
“They kind of have their own stories and knowledge from their grandparents that they’ve heard," McCrary said. "So, it brings something new to the table that I’ve never heard before and I just really value a lot of the stories.”
Participants will receive free lunch and a copy of the anthology.
