As visitation to the Grand Canyon’s North Rim declines and temperatures cool, the park will work with the U.S. Forest Service to carry out prescribed burns over the next two weeks.
Fire managers hope to thin fuel on the forest floor and reduce the risk of a major wildfire in the future.
Smoke from the project may be visible from in the park and along State Route 67.
It could also lead to temporary reroutes of the Transept Trail.
