The new baby giraffe born at the Phoenix Zoo needs a name

The Phoenix Zoo welcomed a tall new addition last month, the zoo announced Friday morning.

Its 10-year-old Masai giraffe, Sunshine, gave birth to a 6-foot, 175-pound female calf on Oct. 25.

The zoo said this is Sunshine’s fourth calf, and the new baby is being cared for by her mom in the giraffe barn. Officials said “it will still be some time until the mother and daughter are out on the African Savanna and visible to the public.”

In the meantime, the public is being asked to help choose one of five names — Addae, Aurora, Kianga, Mkali and Ray.

Vote through Nov. 27 at phoenixzoo.org/blog/uncategorized/namesunshinescalf.
