Arizona couple arrested in $12M Medicaid fraud case

An Arizona couple accused of defrauding the state’s Medicaid system out of millions of dollars were arrested in California this month on charges of wire fraud and money laundering.

The New River couple, Thvoughn and Alexis Curry, are accused of submitting fraudulent claims to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, or AHCCCS.

Authorities say they filed over $12 million worth of false claims for treatment of patients at their behavioral health clinic in Mesa. Those claims were submitted between February 2021 and March 2023.

The couple were arrested Nov. 2 while leaving a casino in Temecula, California.

The investigation is a joint effort of the IRS and Mesa Police Department, with assistance from AHCCCS.
