Over 100 teenagers have been arrested on human smuggling charges in Cochise County

Over 100 teenagers have been arrested in Cochise County over the last 18 months for attempting to smuggle immigrants across the border.

The latest arrests involve two Phoenix youths, according to county sheriff’s spokesperson Carol Capas.

“They’re simply looking for money, and it’s just so unfortunate that that’s basically impacted the rest of your life, regardless of what happens with the case,” she said.

One of those youths is 16 but is being charged as an adult with felony human smuggling under a new law that took effect in September.

Capas said cartels use social media to recruit teens.
