Arizona Cardinals and State Farm Stadium owner sue Glendale over parking garage plan

The Arizona Cardinals and the owner of State Farm Stadium want a judge to block Glendale from letting the developer of a nearby unfinished resort build a parking garage.

A new lawsuit against the city says there’s a thread-the-needle construction timeline to avoid conflict with major sporting events.

It is unclear if Glendale has been served with the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, as city offices were closed for the holiday weekend.

The complaint filed by the Cardinals and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority says that Glendale plans to let VAI Resorts start building its parking garage in January.

The Cardinals and the stadium owner allege that a settlement to an old fight over parking means the city needs their permission first.

Glendale reportedly disagrees because resort guests would only park in the garage above a lot where the city would keep meeting a contractual obligation to provide thousands of spaces to stadium-goers.
