Glendale city officials must appear in court on Dec. 4 to explain how a parking garage for an unfinished resort near State Farm Stadium wouldn’t break a deal between the city and the Arizona Cardinals over stadium parking.
The Cardinals and the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority say that Glendale needs their permission to let the developer of VAI Resorts build a parking garage on a lot reserved for thousands of stadium-goers.
According to the lawsuit, Glendale claims they can green-light the project independently because resort guests would only park on levels above the lot in question.
A Maricopa County Superior Court judge determined the Cardinals and the tourism authority’s case is likely to succeed, and put a temporary hold on plans to start parking lot construction in January.
A spokesperson for Glendale declined to comment.
