The movie “Predator” came out in 1987, and in the 35 years since the film was released, Ander Monson has watched it more than 140 times.
Monson calls it a “big dumb movie,” but adds that it’s “not just a big dumb movie.”
He points out two of its stars went on to become governors of U.S. states — Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura — which to him means the movie has to mean something.
Monson teaches in the English department at the University of Arizona, and explores all of this in his most recent book, called "Predator: A Memoir, A Movie, An Obsession."
The Show spoke with him about it, and asked what keeps him coming back to this kind of movie.
