Two Arizona hospitals are among the best in the U.S. for maternity care, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report.
In its largest-ever analysis of maternity care programs, U.S. News and World Report surveyed nearly 700 hospitals nationwide. Maternity programs at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix and TMC Healthcare in Tucson were both ranked “high performing.”
“These two that earned this recognition do have lower C-section rates, they also, very importantly, have lower compilation rates in the newborns. So that’s the most important thing for most families, is making sure they have a healthy baby," said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News.
The hospitals also had higher-than-average rates of breastfeeding and lower-than-average rates of early induction.
Other Arizona hospitals did not participate in the survey.
