Gila Bend celebrates milestone in rebuilding 2 years after floods

Two years after floods devastated Gila Bend, the town is celebrating a milestone in its rebuilding process. It’s holding a ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, Dec. 9, for the newly renovated Gila Bend Unified Softball Field.

Steve Gallardo is on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, which helped secure funding for the renovation.

“This is the start of a partnership between Maricopa County and the town of Gila Bend," he said. "I think it’s something that we need to be able to look at more and more.”

The fields will be used by the community and will be home to Gila Bend’s varsity girls softball team.

Senior field correspondent Bridget Dowd has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
