Pima County sounds alarm on surge of border crossings

Pima County is sounding the alarm after a four-month surge in crossings at the southern border.

County spokesperson Mark Evans says they are running out of money to feed and shelter asylum seekers.

“What’s been happening since September is a sustained surge of a thousand or more a day, which has never occurred before. And it has thoroughly exhausted everybody involved in the system," Evans said.

He says the federal government needs to step in before the money runs out to provide resources to migrants while they wait for their day in court. For now the county is looking for alternative funding sources.
