The United Nations Environmental Program has released a report examining investments, subsidies and other financial transactions that can affect nature.
The numbers point to a hotter planet, more pollution and degraded forests.
The report says that public and private investment in activities that negatively impact the environment, such as fossil fuel subsidies, runs at about $7 trillion globally per year.
Investment in what the report calls nature-based solutions was about about 200 billion.
It said that unless something is done, a number of problems that affect Arizona and the western United States, such as drought and wildfire, will only get worse.
