Phoenix gets $25M to make safety improvements along Indian School Road

The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded a grant to the City of Phoenix to make safety improvements on a dangerous stretch of Indian School Road.

The $25 million Implementation Grant given to the city is intended to prevent “transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries.”

Funding will go towards installing sidewalks, pedestrian beacons and other features along Indian School Road.

Multiple deaths and injuries have been reported in the project corridor, between 91st and 39th Avenues. From 2017 and 2021, 39 people were killed, and 109 people were seriously injured there.
