2023 was a bellwether year for Phoenix heat. What does that mean for the future?

If we remember one thing from Phoenix in 2023, it will probably be the heat. This summer toppled heat record after heat record, which seemed appropriate given the fact that it was also the hottest year on record worldwide.

But then, think back to our spring and rather late summer. This year brought us a scorching July and August, but a really lovely May and June. And then came a report from Climate Central that rated Phoenix the 31st hottest city this year, not one of the hottest.

How does it all come together to define Phoenix heat in 2023? And how much can you glean from one year?

The Show brought those questions and more to University of Arizona Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences professor Chris Castro.
