AZ attorney general announces $700 million lawsuit settlement with Google

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and a bipartisan group of 52 other attorneys general announced a $700 million payout agreement with Google.

This settles the lawsuit about the Google Play Store’s alleged uncompetitive environment.

Mayes says Google “used its monopoly power over the app market to drive up prices.”

The settlement requires Google to reform its business practices as well as pay “$630 million in restitution, minus costs and fees, to harmed consumers who made purchases on the Google Play Store between August 2016 and September 2023.”

Those eligible for a payout will receive it automatically. No claim needs to be submitted. More details have not yet been provided

An additional $70 million will be paid to settle state claims.
