Rocky Point should be booming with visitors. The Lukeville closure is hurting that

Tourism at Rocky Point continues to take a major hit as the Lukeville Port of Entry is in its third week of closure.

During a time when those resorts are normally packed, Puerto Peñasco resembles more of a ghost town.

Larry Miles with Encántame Resorts says many businesses in the area have had to shut down due to the lack of visitors.

"The fall break, the first two weeks of October, rentals here were virtually sold out. And this week, I think that one of the major resorts here has like two reservations," he said.

Miles said the economic impact goes both ways, as some people from Mexico are choosing not to visit and shop in Arizona to avoid the extended drive through other entry points, like Nogales or San Luis.
