Having a warrant out for your arrest can elicit fears of being incarcerated. People in Pima County who have a misdemeanor warrant out for their arrest may qualify for relief.
Pima County Consolidated Justice Court is open year-round for warrant walk-ins. But, the court, seeking to reduce unnecessary incarcerations, is hosting warrant relief days next week. During warrant relief days, a judge will review and potentially quash the warrant.
Kendrick Wilson, justice of the peace for Pima County’s Precinct 9, explains, "For most misdemeanor cases, there’s a reason why it’s not a felony because it's not something where we want to see people incarcerated, certainly not for extended periods of time."
Judges will review warrants at the downtown Tucson court Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wilson said the court shared information about the warrant relief days to the nearby Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Tohono O'odham Nation. Some cases will need to be rescheduled for a later date.
”Don’t just hope it will go away," Wilson said. "If you have a warrant, you really want to get it taken care of."
