As 2024 approaches, here's a look back at the five most-viewed stories on kjzz.org this year.

1.  Phoenix is leaving the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority

The city of Phoenix announced on June that it will wrap up its partnership with the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority. The city will step away from contributing funding and other resources to the operation of the airport in the southeast Valley in 2024.

2.  Water permits for Saudi Arabia-owned farm in Arizona revoked

The state of Arizona has rescinded drilling permits for two water wells for a Saudi Arabia-owned alfalfa farm in the western portion of the state after authorities said they discovered inconsistencies in the company's well applications.

3.  Phoenix Metrocenter Mall getting a public farewell party before it's demolished

Phoenix residents with fond memories of the former Metrocenter Mall got a chance to say goodbye in a public party. The old mall is slated for demolition and redevelopment.

4. Tempe police officer will represent Arizona in Miss USA competition

A Tempe police officer competed in the Miss USA pageant this year. Candace Kanavel represented the Grand Canyon state after winning Miss Arizona USA.

Tribes from Arizona and beyond — all of whom are indelibly connected to these iconic symbols of the West — are helping sustainably manage the state’s oldest and largest free-ranging buffalo herd on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
