Valley Metro offers free rides on New Year's Eve

If you’re ringing in 2024 in the Phoenix area, Valley Metro wants you to put away the car keys after popping the champagne. All rides on the transit system  will be free on New Year’s Eve.

Riders can hop on the bus, light rail or Tempe streetcar without a ticket starting at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31. Fares are free until the end of service. Buses, light rail and streetcar will run on Sunday schedules but the light rail and streetcar will have extended hours until 2 a.m.

“You don’t have to buy a fare, you can just board the light rail or the bus and go out," said Renata Clo, a spokesperson for Valley Metro. "This is really all about making sure that our riders get home safely on one of the most celebrated nights of the year.”

This is the ninth year Valley Metro has partnered with Molson Coors, the makers of Coors Light, to promote safe partying on New Year’s Eve.

The transit service expects about 15,000 revelers will take advantage of the free rides this year.
