Roads in Coconino National Forest closed for planned maintenance

The U.S. Forest Service has been closing down roads in the Coconino National Forest for the winter.

There hasn’t been a lot of rain or snow in northern Arizona just yet this winter, but the agency is moving ahead with its planned closures for maintenance.

"To keep people from getting stuck. For safety reasons as well. Because they can get back there and not have coverage. Get stuck and be kind of in a pickle," said spokesman Brady Smith.

The Forest Service also cautions people to watch for elevations while driving in the national forest. The same forest road could pass through mountains or deserts, and drivers should prepare for drastic changes in road conditions.
