Snowplows were at work early Thursday morning to clear roads throughout northern Arizona after the season’s first snow.
The snow started falling just about 5 p.m. Wednesday. By 9:30 p.m., Interstate 40 was closed between Kingman and Flagstaff after weather-related crashes and slide offs.
It reopened just before midnight, kicking off a new snow season for northern Arizona. Flagstaff received just a couple of inches, which did not impact school start times.
A second, stronger snowstorm is anticipated Sunday. That snow will reach 4,000 feet in the northern part of the state, and meteorologists are already warning of hazardous driving conditions all that day.
