Prescott senior facility evacuated after damage from frozen pipes

A frozen water line caused serious structural damage to the Ativo Senior Living of Prescott Valley on Friday, forcing the evacuation of 74 people.

It resulted in the collapse of drywall on the third floor and damage to the facility’s three floors.

“We immediately evacuated with assistance from the police department, and the staff of the building immediately evacuated 74 people, and they were thankfully, subsequently sheltered in place so they were kept warm and dry and safe," said Kathy Goodman, a spokesperson for the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, the responding agency.

No injuries were reported. Goodman said 42 of the residents were displaced.
