Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and many will be taking time away from work to attend various events which will honor the famed civil rights leader.
The day is also the first opportunity of the year to explore national parks for free, as the U.S. Forest Service reminds outdoor enthusiasts that the Grand Canyon South Rim is expected to be open, pending inclement weather.
Other fee-free days include:
- National Get Outdoors Day, June 8, 2024
- Juneteenth, June 19, 2024
- National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28, 2024
- Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2024
According to a release from the U.S. department of Agriculture, “Overnight camping fees at developed campgrounds are not waived. The fee waiver program is offered in cooperation with other federal land management agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. For more information, visit the Forest Service’s Passes and Permits webpage at fs.usda.gov/visit/passes-permits.”
