Rising housing prices can hit older adults hard, especially if they’re on a fixed income. Now, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will allocate $2 million that’ll go towards senior apartments in Goodyear.
At its first formal meeting of the year, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the funds, which will pay for the construction of 10 units at a new affordable housing development for older adults living in the West Valley.
Those units will be reserved for households earning at or below 50% of the area median income.
Located near Loop 303 and Van Buren Street, the community will include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.
Older adults are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. Rising costs and a shortage of affordable housing are reasons why.
