Mayes leads multi-state coalition urging stronger EPA Safer Choice Standard guidelines

The Environmental Protection Agency's Safer Choice Standard is a list of guidelines meant to protect consumers from products that harm the environment.

In their proposal, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and 11 other attorneys general outlined a list of revisions focusing on a longer-term approach for evaluating household products.

Proposed changes include additional guidelines for plastic packaging and flushable wipes, as well as a call for more transparency from within the agency.

The public comment period ended Tuesday.
