Lucid Motors, the California-based electric vehicle company, cut the ribbon for the expansion of its manufacturing plant located in Casa Grande on Wednesday.
The company has been manufacturing its electric Sedan, the Lucid Air, at the facility for two years. The 3-million-square-foot expansion of the facility will allow Lucid to begin production on its new SUV, the Lucid Gravity.
Governor Katie Hobbs was at the ceremony and spoke about the importance of sustainable technology and its place in Arizona:
"We have quickly become the global epicenter for sustainable technologies including electric vehicles, batteries, and solar - and today's ribbon-cutting ceremony is further proof of that," she said.
Lucid Motors has been accused by Arizona's regional director of the National Labor Relations Board of anti-union activities, such as illegally firing pro-union workers and confiscating union literature.
Earlier this month, Lucid said that it respects the rights of its employees to choose whether or not to join a union.
