Board of Regents approves contract for new University of Arizona football coach

The state Board of Regents has approved a five-year contract negotiated by the University of Arizona with its new football coach.

Brent Brennan can earn nearly $4 million this year with base salary and max-incentives.

Brennan told the board that he’s just now hiring assistant coaches because he first tried to persuade players to stay at UA.

“(I) spent that week trying to work on that connection. Giving them a chance to get to know me. A chance for me to get to know them. So we can start off with just kind of a foundation of respect,” Brennan said.

A large number of players have since said they’re staying in Tucson.

Board members were invited by UA President Robert Robbins to ask Brennan questions about his contract, but none did.
