The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has chosen Democrat Jevin Hodge to replace state Rep. Athena Salman in Legislative District 8.
Salman had resigned in December to be director of Arizona campaigns for Reproductive Freedom For All.
County supervisors had to choose a Democrat as Salman ran as one.
LD8 covers portions of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
According to a Maricopa County press release, Hodge previously served as the president of the Tempe Union High School Education Foundation. He will serve through Dec. 31, and the position will appear on the general election ballot in November.
